Can I still learn Tae Kwon Do if I am not in good shape or not very athletic? What if I have never done martial arts before?
Yes you can. Tae Kwon Do is a great way to improve your health and overall condition, no matter what your starting point is. Our individualized curriculum allows students to progress at their own pace, making our programs ideal for people of all fitness and skill levels.

Can I take classes with my children?
Of course! Our special Family Classes are designed for just that purpose. Training together as a family can strengthen relationships. At Darimar, we offer a family-friendly environment that is perfect for you, your children, or the whole family.

How young can I start my child?
We have children as young as 3 ½ years old starting in our Little Tigers program. Since all children develop at different speeds, it just depends on when your child is ready to get started.

When does the next session start? When can I sign up?
Darimar offers rolling admissions, which means that you can sign up whenever you are ready.

How much does it cost?
Please refer to our page on pricing.

Do you have a family discount?
We want to encourage a family atmosphere here at Darimar, so we have excellent family discounts:
  • 2nd Family Member: 10% discount
  • 3rd Family Member: 30% discount
  • 4th Family Member: 50% discount

Are your classes very strict or very loose?
Our classes are very structured, but we are not the military. Classes are designed to be enjoyable and engaging, with just the right mix of discipline and fun. Our students look forward to coming back to class.

How many classes per week should I attend?
We strongly recommend twice a week.

Do I have to attend the same class each week?
No. Our schedule is designed to fit your busy lives. You can attend whichever classes each week that best fit your own schedule, and those classes can change week to week—just make sure to check for the right class time.

What is the student to instructor ratio?
Our classes have great student to instructor ratios. The exact ratio varies from class to class, but we typically have 5 masters or instructors and approximately 20 kids in each class. Our Little Tigers classes are smaller, with around a dozen kids and the same number of instructors.

How does your After School Program differ from your regular class programs?
The After School Program at Darimar is a special program where children are picked up from school in our 15 passenger vans and taken directly to Darimar. Upon arrival, they are given a snack, take Tae Kwon Do class, and have the opportunity to play or work on homework. A child enrolled in our regular classes only comes to the Tae Kwon Do classes twice a week (no after school pick up, snack, or supervised homework/play time).

I trained in another martial art previously. Do I have to start again as a white belt?
We always do our best to respect your current ranking, but every martial arts curriculum is a little bit different. With that in mind, we will evaluate you to see what your current skill level is, then place you at the belt we feel most closely matches your skill.

What is Tae Kwon Do and how does it differ from other martial arts?
Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art that focuses on self-defense. Because Tae Kwon Do has a stronger emphasis on kicking compared to other martial arts, it is ideal for improving strength, flexibility, balance, and endurance.

Does Tae Kwon Do increase aggressiveness?
Absolutely not! Tae Kwon Do, like other martial arts, is about finding balance and harmony. This translates into learning respect and discipline alongside the physical skills. Studying Tae Kwon Do actually makes people, especially children, calmer and more respectful. We continually educate our students to make sure that they understand that Tae Kwon Do is a tool for self-improvement and defense, not a tool to harm others or cause disrespect.

How high is the risk of injury? Is Tae Kwon Do safe to practice?
Tae Kwon Do is a physical activity, and like any physical activity, there is risk for injury. A huge focus is placed on safety at Darimar; however, emphasis is put on a good warm-up and stretching. All training is well-supervised by our masters and instructors to make sure that nothing unsafe is going on. We pride ourselves in the fact that injuries during class are few and far between.

Is sparring required?
Full contact sparring is not required, but the opportunity to spar in a safe, controlled environment is available for students who are interested.
